The Princess Royal will undertake an official two-day visit to Ghana next month, followed by a two-day visit of Sierra Leone it has been revealed.

The Queen’s daughter will travel to the West Africa on April 3, staying in Ghana for two days until travelling on to neighbouring Sierra Leone.

Buckingham Palace has not yet released an itinerary or details of the visit. Engagements and charities which the Princess will visit will be announced in due course.

Princess Anne is expected to be the most high profile UK diplomat to visit both Ghana and Sierra Leone in 2017.

She has a fondness for the Ghana, having visited three times in the past ten years.

The visit will likely revolve around the strengthening of relations between the UK and the Commonwealth, of which Ghana is a member.

Princess Anne’s last visited Ghana and Sierra Leone in 2011 where she undertook a series of engagements to promote and celebrate bilateral relationships.

The news of Anne’s visit to West Africa comes after it was revealed that she is the hardest working royal of 2017 so far. Having worked a total of 44 days since the start of the year, Anne has currently undertaken around a quarter of The Royal Family’s entire workload.

Ghana is one of the few countries being visited in 2017 outside of Europe. Other members of The Royal Family are preoccupied with visiting countries inside the European Union ready for the UK’s eventual departure in 2019.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently undertaking a short visit to France where they are meeting with President Hollande.

The Prince and Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are also going on a whistle-stop tour of Europe in April. Together, the couple will visit Romania, Austria, Italy and The Holy See.

It is all part of a strategy by the British government to promote The Royal Family as ‘Brexit Ambassadors’, trying to improve bilateral relations before the process of withdrawing from the EU begins.
