Her Royal Highness Princess Anne will visit Bermuda this month for the America’s Cup.

The Princess Royal is expected to stopover on the island between 24- 25 June for the 35th America’s Cup.

What is America’s Cup?

The America’s Cup was first established in 1851 and consists of sailing yachts competing throughout different locations. It is an international sport and one of the oldest trophies within the sporting industry today. The name of the cup evolves from an American sailing vessel that first won the cup.

This year, Bermuda is hosting the America’s Cup. The cup match is set to be presented by international fashion retailer Louis Vuitton where yacht sailors will be competing for the ultimate prize, the America’s Cup.

So why Bermuda? Well, Bermuda ‘is made up of a total of 181 islands which reaches 21 square miles.’ Bermuda is also known ‘for its spectacular beaches that compromise of pink sand and crystal clear blue water.’

Whilst Her Royal Highness officially visits Bermuda for the America’s Cup, she and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy James Hamilton Laurence will also carry out official duties.

“Her Royal Highness and Sir Tim will attend a reception at Government House, Morning Service at Christ Church Warwick, the 35th America’s Cup and visit Commissioner’s House,” says a Government House spokesman.
