Princess Anne has opened a new multi-million-pound hospital wing in Bradford.

The new £28m hospital wing will have two children’s wards, an intensive care unit and dementia wards.

The Princess Royal spent an hour touring the new facilities. She met staff and patients as she took a tour of the building.

The deputy medical director, Dr Simon Frazer said “It was an honour to welcome The Princess Royal to our new children’s wards and to meet our patients and staff so she could see for herself our impressive facilities.

“The wards have been designed to meet our patients’ needs and have enabled children’s inpatient services to be brought together, providing greater access to the latest technology for treatment.”

The new hospital wing is part of a £75m investment to help improve patient care. Bradford’s Hospitals Children’s Charity ambassador, Hassan Nazir, who spent time in the old children’s wards when he was younger and helped design the new children’s wards presented Princess Anne with a posy.

Hassan helped raise over £250,000 to help bring toys, games and equipment to the new children’s wards.

Princess Anne who visited the hospital in 2016 said that the new ward was “a transformation in so many different ways. Congratulations to you.”

The Trust chairman, Professor Bill McCarthy, invited Princess Anne to unveil a plaque in the new ward. McCarthy highlighted how happy they were with the new development saying “the design is fantastic, the technology is cutting-edge but all of this would count for nothing it if wasn’t for the wonderful staff and their skills, commitment and passion for caring for the city’s people at their most vulnerable times.”

He added: “This is really a tribute to all the staff in this hospital”

Following her morning visit to the hospital, she then spent time in a new underground shopping scheme in which she unveiled a plaque. She spent time talking to the vendors there.
