Zara Tindall is preparing to take to the saddle again for a four-star eventing return at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials in May.

The Olympic silver medalist missed much of the last equestrian season after her horse, High Kingdom, suffered an injury last year forcing them both to withdraw from the highly anticipated Rolex Kentucky in the USA.

In preparation for the Badminton Horse Trials, Zara has been in training over the past week, having being spotted riding on the family estate in Gatcombe, Gloucestershire.

When High Kingdom suffered an injury last year and was forced to withdraw from the Rolex Kentucky, Zara said she was “gutted” at the news.

The horse managed to cut into it’s joint capsual on the hind leg just before they performed the dressage routine.  This meant the joint had to be flushed out to avoid infection under general anesthetic.

The 34 year old has, however, performed earlier this month at the Lincolnshire Horse Trial. After a solid performance they have now been confirmed for Badminton, the Crème de la Crème of eventing with competitors from all across the world taking part.

If Zara performs well at Badminton, she could again be selected to take part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, where she can defend her equestrian medal.

The Queen’s granddaughter is also well known for her horse racing success as well, as she is the part owner of thoroughbred Monbeg Dude. Her biggest equine success as of late was in April when Monbeg Dude finished 3rd place at the Crabbie’s Grand National at Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool.

Unfortunately, Monbeg Dude will not be taking part in the 2016 Grand National as he is still recovering from a tendon injury. He finished 7th place in 2014, and 3rd place last year; winning £105,500 in third place prize money.
