The Princess Royal has made a visit this week to Headway Worcester to open a new kitchen facility and meet some of the brain injury survivors that have benefitted from the services it offers. Princess Anne was originally scheduled to visit the Gregory’s Mill Street premises on March 2nd, but the snow on the ground from the “beast from the east” forced that visit to be cancelled.

One of those who welcomed The Princess Royal will be Chief Executive, Kathryn Davis, she looked forward to meeting Princess Anne and said “It will be an opportunity to showcase our outstanding team and for our service users to share their stories with The Princess Royal of how acquired brain injury has changed their lives and their family’s lives, as well as the role Headway plays in their recovery and also their future lives”.

Headway Worcestershire helps brain injury survivors and their families both with crucial rehabilitation programmes, but also ability to socialise, develop and interact with other survivors and their families who are at a different stage of their recovery. Through this meeting survivors can gain the self-confidence that the rehabilitation programme will improve their chances because they can see the evidence of others who are further on.

Help is not only given at their hub in the middle of Worcester, but they also have an outreach service. One of the survivors who has benefitted from the outreach service is Jenny West, she had a stroke and two brain haemorrhages sixteen years ago. She said “It is great that the Princess will see all the ways Headway helps people with brain injuries in this area. I really like the Princess Royal. She has great spirit”.
