Here’s a sentence you won’t read all that often on Royal Central in the year to come. It’s been a quiet week for the Princess Royal. Yes, Anne has been, by her standards, rather low key in the past seven days. And by low key, we mean just the four engagements. Here’s the Princess Royal’s week.
Anne’s first official appearance of the week came on Tuesday in her role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Logistics Corps, the largest corps in the British Army. She visited 9 Regiment at Buckley Barracks near Chippenham, Wiltshire, which is described on the official Army website as one of its most culturally diverse wings. Soldiers from Fiji, India, the Caribbean and across Africa are now part of the regiment which was set up in 1993.

Tuesday evening saw Anne back in London where she headed to St. James’ Palace to host a dinner for Opportunity International United Kingdom, of which she is patron. The charity supports entrepreneurs in 22 countries across the globe, offering them opportunities to set up businesses and work towards self sufficiency. Anne has been their patron since 1998 and has visited several countries, including Ghana and Peru, to support the charity’s work.
On Wednesday, January 23rd, the Princess Royal took part in the Integrated Transport Planning Limited Conference organised by Transaid – she is their patron. The event took place at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel in London.

That afternoon, the Princess Royal headed to Berkshire for a visit to another organisation of which she is Royal Patron. Anne was in Reading to see the work of WISE, which campaigns for gender balance in the fields of engineering, science and technology.
The princess visited UTC Reading where she launched the digital platform, ‘My Skills, My Life’, which aims to put girls aged between 11 and 19 in touch with role models working in science, technology and engineering. It hopes to get up to 200,000 girls using the platform which involves a free to use game to help them discover their skills and strengths as well as a chance to reach out to mentors while parents and teachers can use the platform to find new ways of making STEM engaging for students.
According to the Court Circular, this week’s four engagements brings Anne’s tally for 2019 up to 20. The Princess Royal was the hardest working member of the House of Windsor in 2018, completing 518 engagements over the course of the year.
