Princess Anne greeted the King’s Troop Royal Artillery soldiers in the park as they prepared to fire the canons to celebrate the occasion.

The 68-year-old royal arrived in Hyde Park by a horse-drawn carriage wearing a tartan coat and feathered hat.

The Honourable Artillery Company also performed a further 62-gun salute at the Tower of London.

Gun Salutes never take place on a Sunday. As such, the mark of respect had been postponed by a day.

Taking to Twitter, the Tower of London staff explained why a 62-round gun salute was fired this afternoon.

Twenty-one rounds are fired for a royal anniversary, an extra 20 as the Tower is a royal palace and fortress, and a further 21 rounds for the City of London.
