The Princess Royal has canceled a planned visit to Botswana and Mozambique following medical advice as she continues to recover from a severe chest infection.

The Queen’s daughter had previously cancelled all engagements which were scheduled to take place over the past week, and more will be cancelled next week.

Princess Anne’s brother, The Duke of York, will now travel to the southern African countries in her place.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “The Princess Royal is still recovering from a bad chest infection. HRH’s working programme for next week has therefore been scaled back, with a number of engagements cancelled.

“As a precaution, on the advice of doctors, the Princess will not undertake the planned visit to Botswana and Mozambique at the end of the month. HRH The Duke of York will now undertake this visit.”

Princess Anne was confirmed to have a severe chest infection after she underwent tests at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary a couple of weeks ago.

Before she fell ill, Her Highness visited Russia where she attended a military parade to commemorate the World War II Arctic Convoys.

She also spent most of August in Brazil for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

It is extremely rare for the 66-year-old to cancel engagements. She is often dubbed the ‘hardest working royal’ having conducted more engagements than any other member of The Royal Family last year.

This is a breaking news story. Keep refreshing this page for the very latest information as it comes into us.
