Princess Anne, the Princess Royal is due to arrive in Malaysia on Saturday, 29 October for an official three-day visit as part of the Emerging Leaders Dialogues Asia (ELD) event.
The Princess Royal will be hosted by Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem and Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem at the British High Commission and she is expected to attend the ELD event in Kuching.
Hosted by the Association of Emerging Leaders’ Dialogue (AELD) and Commonwealth Study Conference Association of Malaysia (COSCAM), the Emerging Leaders Dialogues Asia event began on Thursday, 20 October and will run until Tuesday, 1 November.
Started as a Commonwealth Study Conference in 1956, the dialogue was founded by the Princess Royal’s father, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. The theme of the current dialogue is ‘Leadership for Sustainable Development’ and involves 82 participants from 25 countries, including non-member states such as Cambodia, the Philippines and Thailand, who have not been invited to participate in previous dialogues.
Participants will have the opportunity to participate in study tours of the Klang Valley, Johor, Sabah, Pahang, Malacca and Sarawak before they travel to Kuching to attend a state dinner.
From the ELD website:
‘Our programmes are designed with a unique approach to leadership development by bringing together emerging leaders from different countries and regions across all economic sectors, for an on-field study tour experience. The dynamic programme helps build relationships, challenge paradigms, confront different perspectives and values, forge common ground and strengthen the participants’ ability to collaborate, integrate and think critically in their role as leaders.’
Princess Anne is patron of the Association of Emerging Leaders Dialogues Asia and in her official capacity will attend a welcome dinner hosted by the Sarawak government for participants.
In a quote on the ELD website Princess Anne said:
‘Leadership is not necessarily about making the whole world a better place, but it is about making an impact that will improve life; that will make life better in your immediate business and social communities. Join the Emerging Leaders’ Dialogues 2016 and inspire action for positive change.’
The Princess Royal last visited Malaysia in 1972.
