On 5th October The Princess Royal, Patron, UK Youth, will attend a Reception at the Mall Galleries in London.
UK Youth is a leading national charity that empowers almost 700,000 young people, aged 11-25, to reach their full potential. They strive to ensure that every young person they support can move from childhood to adulthood with the tools they need to become a happy, healthy, valued member of society, no matter how difficult their background.
Through it’s vast network of youth clubs and organisations across the length and breadth of the country, UK Youth runs a range of innovative programmes, delivered locally, in partnership with its members and corporate partners, other charities as well as the Public sector. They seek to enable young people to grow into confident and capable adults who lead fulfilling lives.
The Princess Royal is an active Patron and advocate of UK Youth and some of her past support has included:
A visit to The Sulgrave Club, to witness their exciting graphic design project, organised by the Microsoft Hub Programme. (The Sulgrave was one of 75 clubs nationwide allocated funding by charity UK Youth and Microsoft.)
A speech prior to a charity auction, where auctioneer, Colin Fraser, helped raise over £35,000 for UK Youth at a gala dinner and auction hosted by Prince Michael of Kent and Nigel Mansell CBE in London.
The Princess has also hosted some receptions at St James’s Palace supporting such programmes as UK Youth’s Hearing Unheard Voices celebration.
The charity is mindful that with almost a million under 25s unemployed today, the work they do has never been more important. The programmes UK Youth offer, enable young people to develop the tools they need for life, work and a better future.
The organisation has six main areas of work including young people’s participation, advocacy for youth work, accrediting non-formal learning, CSR programmes with national companies and run a network of alternative education provisions called Youth Achievement Foundations.
Its headquarters are based at Avon Tyrrell Activity Centre in the New Forest, Hampshire, where over 20,000 young people take part in residential learning activities each year. It also has a London office.
UK Youth develops particular pieces of work that focus on supporting groups who are at risk of becoming marginalised. These programmes are often youth-led from development to delivery, ensuring they resonate with young people.
Current programmes of UK Youth are:
• Starbucks Youth Action – A project that supports young people to improve their communities with up to £2,000 in funding in partnership with Starbucks.
• UPS Road Code – A programme promoting road safety among young people delivered in partnership with UPS.
• Lloyds Money for Life Challenge – Lloyds Banking Group’s money management programme, targeted at young people and adults in the wider Further Education, work-based learning and community learning sectors.
• Microsoft IT Youth Hubs – in partnership with Microsoft supporting youth clubs and projects to become IT Youth Hubs and benefit from hardware, software, mentoring and financial assistance.
• The Big Music Project – a programme that will create 100 music hubs that help young people access the support they need to run their music projects.
